Rejoice In Your Reformation Heritage
500 Years of Grace
A joint Reformation festival of the congregations of the San Diego Circuit of WELS.
Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 4:00pm
at Redeemer by the Sea Lutheran Church in Carlsbad, CA
“Out of love for the truth and the desire to make it clear...”
Thus began the 95 Theses that Martin Luther, a relatively obscure monk and university lecturer, posted for public discussion and debate in October of 1517.
Luther’s diligent pursuit of the truth was the spark that lit a powder keg of political drama, personal intrigue, and theological reform that permanently reshaped the face of Christianity. The reform movement that Luther started in 1517 reclaimed the good news that God saves sinners by grace alone, through faith alone, on account of Christ alone.
2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation of the Church. 2017 is a milestone of God's grace worthy of celebration! To that end, the San Diego Circuit of WELS congregations is hosting its annual, joint Reformation festival on October 29, 2017 in Carlsbad, CA.
Under the theme, “Rejoice In Your Reformation Heritage,” the 2017 joint Reformation festival will accentuate the greatest treasures of the Lutheran tradition—a clear theology of grace, appreciation for the gifts of music and art, the restoration of the Lord's Supper, and the proclamation of salvation on account of Christ alone.
Highlights of the 2017 Festival will include, among other things:
- A new composition for children's choir composed by a fellow WELS member
- A beautiful anthem sung by adult choir
- Treasured hymns of the Lutheran tradition, including “A Mighty Fortress,” “All Glory Be to God on High” and others
- Guest preacher from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, the WELS seminary for pastoral training
- A joint celebration of the sacrament of the Lord's Supper
- Musical accompaniment by organ, piano, brass, and other instruments
The service will be held at Redeemer by the Sea Lutheran Church in Carlsbad, CA. Redeemer by the Sea is conveniently located off Interstate 5 on the northwest side of San Diego County. The facility offers a beautiful setting for a service along with ample space for many worshipers from across the San Diego Circuit of WELS.
