Men’s Breakfast Bible Study is the monthly men's Bible study at St. Stephen Lutheran. Men meet on the first Saturday of the month for food and fellowship at Rainbow Oaks restaurant.

Our current study is called "Strength Upon Strength — Reclaiming biblical manhood for godly men."

Reclaiming biblical manhood for godly men Today’s culture of identity politics has threatened long-held standards of manhood. This has caused two predictable but unfortunate reactions: some have labeled as bigotry the effort to cultivate the virtue of manhood while others have asserted a comic book caricature of what makes “real men.” Biblical manhood is something different altogether—both timeless and timely, strong and subtle. In this 2017 study, the men of St. Stephen Lutheran will reclaim biblical manhood by exploring the biblical vision for Christian men—that they build their strength upon the unique strength of Jesus.

Family Art Workshop: Recycled Materials Collage

  • St. Stephen Lutheran Church

Disconnect from technology and build a creative connection together at the monthly Family Art Workshop from St. Stephen Lutheran Church.

Individuals and families may come to this community workshop to enjoy the shared experience of creating a work of art.

Mrs. Niki Hilsabeck, our art director, is a Fallbrook artist who paints primarily with acrylic and pastel. She enjoys bringing art to others by teaching, demonstrating at events, and writing art lessons for various websites. Niki will offer a step-by-step lesson for people of all ages and skills. Just a beginner? You’ll learn the basics. More advanced? You’ll have room to work at a higher skill level.

The April 2017 session of Family Art Workshop will feature a collage made from recycled materials.

Christmas Caroling

Spread Christmas cheer and gospel joy to the residents of the Silvergate and Regency care facilities here in Fallbrook through our annual Christmas caroling outing from St. Stephen Lutheran. Christmas caroling is a fine example of Christian love. It is gratuitous grace, free of charge, and offered with no strings attached. What a fine expression of the unconditional gospel!

Plans are still pending for the night's festivities, but they will include a trip to two senior living facilities followed by an evening afterglow at a St. Stephen family's home. When more details are available they will be posted here and distributed through the congregation's normal communication channels.

Sanctuary Studies – Will God bless America?

  • St. Stephen Lutheran Church

American politicians end virtually every public speech with the phrase, “God bless America.” This, along with many other historical references to “God” in our nation’s history, has led many to conclude that our nation has enjoyed a special relationship with God as a “Christian nation.” The plain fact is that there was nothing specifically Christian about either the founding or the subsequent history of the United States of America. Today we are seeing more clearly how this wrong conclusion has damaged both our society and our gospel proclamation. We need corrective understanding of the relationship between the power of the state and the power of the gospel.

In this session of Sanctuary Studies, Rev. Caleb Bassett will provide a historical review of our nation's messy theology, explain its contemporary consequences, and offer a biblically sound theology of life in a civil society.

Sanctuary Studies: Can we trust the gospel writers?

  • St. Stephen Lutheran Church

The four biographies of Jesus, called “gospels,” were written long ago by men who believed Jesus’ claim to be God in flesh. People rightly wonder whether we can trust these four documentary records of Jesus’ words and actions. Remarkably, we can put the integrity of the gospel writers through rigorous tests and reach the logical and plausible conclusion that these four writers were, in fact, telling the truth about what Jesus said and did—including his remarkable resurrection from the grave.

In this session of Sanctuary Studies, Rev. Caleb Bassett will walk participants through a test of the authenticity and integrity of the eyewitness accounts of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Together we’ll discover that the record stands clearly in favor of the Christian claim that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself.

Sanctuary Studies – Why do bad things happen?

  • St. Stephen Lutheran Church

“If God is perfectly loving and all powerful, then why do bad things happen?” This is the so-called “problem of evil” which has troubled Christians of all ages. The problem seems impossible to reconcile, which leads many inside and outside of the church to conclude that God doesn’t not exist, or if he does, that he is some sort of monster.

What can Christians say about the problem of evil? Why do bad things happen? And who is to blame? The only reasonable answer is the one that nobody really wants to hear: bad things happen because we make them happen.

In this session of Sanctuary Studies, Rev. Caleb Bassett will teach about the problematic consequences of human free will and its relationship to the problem of evil. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the problem facing mankind and—more importantly—the solution offered in Jesus Christ.
